Lila brushed past low branches, her fingers trailing along the rough bark. Her stomach rumbled faintly, but she pressed on, drawn by the melody of birds and the mysterious whisper of the wind. The forest seemed to welcome her, shadows and light dancing at her feet.
"What a funny-looking plant. I wonder if it tastes as sweet as it smells," she murmured, plucking a leaf and bringing it to her lips. The taste was odd but strangely comforting, and before she knew it, she had eaten several leaves. Suddenly, her tummy began to rumble louder, and a peculiar sensation bubbled up inside her.
Lila gasped as her legs bent backward, her toes fusing and reshaping into delicate, spotted hooves. Brown fur sprouted along her arms and neck, soft ears unfurling atop her head. Greenie wriggled free from her old clothes, trembling but wide-eyed with awe, as she gazed at her new form reflected in a nearby pool: an anthropomorphic deer, graceful and bright-eyed, now known as Greenie.
"I'm not scared anymore," Greenie whispered joyfully, stretching her arms and bounding forward with an ease she'd never known. She nibbled on fresh grass, relishing the taste, and laughed as she ran, leaping over fallen logs and darting between the trees without a care.
"I can run, eat, swim, and be myself. No more worries, no more shame," Greenie thought, feeling truly free as she basked under the open sky, perfectly at home in her new skin.
"Thank you, strange forest," she murmured, her voice gentle as a summer breeze. Greenie closed her eyes, safe and free at last, ready for whatever adventures tomorrow might bring.
