Mellie sniffs the floor where her owner’s scent lingers, her tail barely twitching. Suddenly, a strange tingling rushes through her; the world sharpens, and the hum of the refrigerator becomes a melody. Mellie feels her tongue loosen, and with a wild bark, she realizes she can speak. "Adam? Where are you? Something feels wrong!"
Mellie pads outside, her gaze fixed on the imposters. Their faces flicker and distort, revealing grotesque troll features beneath police hats. Her heart pounds as she overhears their guttural voices plotting in hushed tones. "Those trolls… they took Adam! I have to save him," Mellie whispers, determination surging through her newfound voice.
Zara, an alien guide, steps forward and offers Mellie a glowing map and a device that crackles with energy. "Your courage is powerful, Mellie. Follow this path and you’ll reach Adam. Beware the trolls’ tricks," Zara advises, her words resonating with hope. Mellie nods, her fur bristling with anticipation.
Grandma Ann, Adam’s grandmother, opens the door, her silver hair pulled into a neat bun. Mellie is welcomed inside, and the two share a meal at a checkered kitchen table. "You’re Mellie, aren’t you? I know Adam would want you to be brave," Grandma Ann says warmly. Mellie eats a slice of apple pie, feeling her strength return.
Mellie bursts through the door, her voice booming with command. "Let Adam go, you fiends! Or face the wrath of Mellie the Talking Dog!" The trolls recoil, stumbling over each other as Mellie leaps and snatches the alien device. With a blinding flash, she activates it, sending the trolls scurrying in terror as the chains fall away.
Adam kneels to hug Mellie, tears mixing with laughter. "You saved me, Mellie! And… you can talk? This is incredible!" Mellie wags her tail, her voice gentle. "I’ll always find you, Adam. No troll, cop, or alien can stop me," she promises, as the rain begins to clear and hope returns to their world.
