Red, the zebra known throughout the plains for her scarlet cloak, prances with excitement. Her basket, filled with sweet acacia leaves, swings from her mouth as she hums a tune. The journey is tranquil, save for the distant roar of lions echoing from the far hills.
"Grandmother will be so happy with these treats," she murmurs, ears flickering with anticipation.
Lion, the cunning predator, watches silently, his tail flicking behind him. He rises, muscles rippling, and steps onto the path. The savannah grows hushed, as if nature itself anticipates his next move.
"Where are you off to in such a hurry, little zebra?" he purrs, his voice smooth and dangerous.
"I’m visiting my grandmother, just beyond the river," replies Red, her gaze wary but fearless.
Red finds her grandmother’s hut eerily quiet. The curtains flutter, and the air feels heavy with foreboding. She steps inside, only to see Lion perched in her grandmother’s chair, his mouth curling into a sly smile.
"Come closer, dear. Let me see you better," beckons Lion, his eyes gleaming.
"Grandmother, what big teeth you have..." whispers Red, sensing danger.
As Lion lunges, Red leaps aside. She spots a telltale lump in the lion’s belly—a glimpse of stripes beneath golden fur. Summoning all her courage, she grips the lion’s stomach and squeezes with tremendous strength. With a gasp and a shudder, Lion coughs up her grandmother, who tumbles onto the floor, shaken but unharmed.
"You’ll never hurt my family again," vows Red.
Red turns toward Lion, her eyes blazing with wild power. In a startling reversal, she opens her mouth impossibly wide and, with a mighty gulp, swallows the lion whole. The hut shakes as the deed is done, and silence settles once more.
Grandmother, frail but fierce, rushes to embrace her granddaughter.
"You saved me, Red. The savannah will remember your bravery,"
Red stands beside her grandmother, her red cloak fluttering in the gentle breeze. The basket of acacia leaves sits on the table, untouched but symbolizing hope and safety. The zebra’s legend spreads, echoing across the plains—where darkness once threatened, courage now reigns.
"Together, we are stronger than any lion," she says, the promise of a new dawn shimmering in her stripes.
