Jacob Shae, a sixteen-year-old boy with fiery red short hair, green eyes, fair skin, and a bold orange shirt, stands hesitantly over the treats. His fingers twitch as he reaches for a cupcake, then withdraws. He sighs, longing clear in his gaze, but frustration etched deep in his furrowed brow. "Why does it have to be sweets and spicy food? Of all things," he mutters, glancing at his reflection in the microwave door.
Now standing in the kitchen is Jasmine Max, with dark brown hair cascading to her waist, fair skin, and a look of utter annoyance. The orange clothes have vanished, replaced by a frilly pink dress, and she clutches the cupcake with a sense of betrayal. "Great. Just great. Why can't I resist?" she groans, slumping onto a stool, her voice edged with both resignation and bitterness.
Jasmine Max pushes the cupcake away and buries her face in her hands. "I can't keep doing this. I love sweets, I love spice, but I can't stand being stuck like this," she whispers. The rain intensifies, mirroring her frustration. With a defiant glare, she stands up, determined to find a solution.
Jacob Shae catches up with his best friend, Maya Lin, a sharp-eyed girl with jet-black hair and a mischievous grin. "Maya, I need to tell you something. But you have to promise not to laugh," he says, voice barely above a whisper. "Of course, Jacob. You know I never laugh at your secrets," she replies, her tone softening.
Jacob Shae explains everything—the sweets, the spice, the transformation into Jasmine Max, and his hatred for the curse. As he speaks, Maya Lin's eyes widen, but she listens intently, never interrupting. When he finishes, she squeezes his hand. "Jacob, or Jasmine, you’re still you. Maybe we can figure this out together. But you shouldn't have to stop enjoying what you love," she says firmly.
Jacob Shae stares at the chip, a small smile tugging at his lips. He looks at his phone, where a new message from Maya Lin reads: “We’ll figure it out. Promise.” For the first time, hope flickers in his eyes. He may not control the transformation yet, but with a friend by his side, he feels ready to face whatever comes next.
