Jareth stood with a determined glare, his heart pounding against his ribcage. His adversary, Hoggle, sneered back, his eyes glinting with malice. "You should have stayed away," he taunted, raising his weapon with a deliberate slowness that only heightened the tension. Jareth lunged, trying to disarm him, but Hoggle was faster, landing a fierce blow to Jareth's chest. Jareth staggered back, gasping as pain exploded through his body.
Cora stepped forward, her hands steady despite the adrenaline coursing through her veins. "Stay away from him," she warned, her voice steady as she aimed at Hoggle's leg. The shot was precise, and Hoggle cried out, collapsing to the ground. Cora rushed to Jareth's side, her heart aching at the sight of his wound. "We need to get you help," she insisted, her eyes scanning the alley for any sign of assistance.
Jareth winced, holding his side as he tried to focus on Cora's face. "I'm okay," he managed, though his voice was strained. Cora shook her head, determination written across her features. "No, you're not, and I'm not losing you," she replied fiercely. Together, they managed to move to the edge of the alley, hoping help would arrive soon.
The doctor, Dr. Marcus, approached swiftly, his medical bag in hand. "Let me see," he instructed, kneeling beside Jareth. His expression was grave as he assessed the wound. "We need to act fast," he said, glancing up at Cora. "We'll get him to the clinic, but you need to stay calm." She nodded, relief mixed with worry as they worked together to lift Jareth into the car.
Jareth lay still, his breathing shallow but steady. Cora sat beside him, her hand clasping his, offering silent reassurance. Dr. Marcus monitored his vitals, his focus unwavering. "You're going to be okay," Cora whispered, her voice soft but firm. Jareth squeezed her hand, grateful for her presence, knowing that her courage had saved his life.
Dr. Marcus and Cora worked together to move Jareth onto a stretcher, wheeling him inside. The staff moved quickly, and Cora watched as they disappeared through the double doors. Left in the waiting area, she sank into a chair, exhaustion and hope mingling in her heart. "Thank you," she murmured to the night, knowing that whatever came next, they had faced the darkness together.
