Selene Blackthorne watched with bated breath as her father aimed his rifle at the werewolf, her heart pounding in her chest. She had seen this before, the thrill of the hunt, the precision required to take down such a beast. But tonight was different. Her father, a seasoned hunter, had brought the creature to her doorstep, expecting her to make the kill. She felt the weight of the silver knife in her hand, cold and unforgiving.
Selene hesitated, the boy's tearful eyes meeting hers. The Werewolf, now a boy again, whispered, "Please don't kill me, I've never hurt anyone." The vulnerability in his voice struck a chord within her, a flicker of doubt creeping in. Her father's harsh words echoed in her ears, urging her to finish the job. But instead, she swung the knife, slicing through the ropes and setting the creature free.
The Werewolf roared, his massive hand sending Selene's father crashing into a tree. Pain seared through her shoulder as he bit down, his voice a deep growl, "You'll thank me later." Darkness enveloped her as she succumbed to the agony, her world fading to black.
Selene awoke to find her father standing over her, the barrel of his gun reflecting the early light. "Daddy?" she called out, her voice laced with confusion and fear. His response was cold, a declaration of her banishment from his life. "I have no daughter. If I ever see you again, I'll kill you like the beast you are." He turned away, leaving her alone in the clearing as his truck roared to life and disappeared into the distance.
Selene struggled to her feet, the bite on her shoulder throbbing with each step. She felt the world around her with newfound clarity, the rustle of creatures in the underbrush, the whisper of the wind through the trees. She recalled a rumor of a place where those like her could find refuge—a school for the supernatural. Determined, she set her sights on finding it, knowing she would need guidance to navigate her new reality.
Selene emerged from the forest, the city sprawling before her. Her heart swelled with a mixture of fear and anticipation. She was no longer the girl she had been, the hunter's daughter. She was something else entirely, and as the last light of day faded, she embraced the uncertainty of her path, ready to face whatever lay ahead.
