Maria watched her sons, Ethan and Liam, as they played by the edge of the camp. Their laughter suddenly shifted, deepening into guttural sounds. Alarmed, she turned to her husband, David, but his eyes were fixed on the boys, wide with disbelief.
"David, what's happening to them?" Maria whispered, fear threading her voice.
"I don't know, Maria," he replied, stepping closer to the boys.
Liam[/@ch_3_d]"Mom, Dad, look!"[/@ch_3_d] [@ch_3]he exclaimed, marveling at his own transformation.
Ethan watched his hands, flexing his fingers as if testing his newfound strength. "I feel... powerful," he said, his voice a deep rumble.
David pulled Maria aside. "We need to get them back to civilization before it's too late," he urged, glancing nervously at his sons.
Maria gripped David's arm, her heart pounding in her chest. "We can't let this happen to you too," she said, fear lacing her words.
David nodded, determination etched on his face. "I'll protect you and the boys, no matter what," he promised, his voice steady despite the uncertainty.
Ethan[/@ch_2_d]"Do you hear that?"[/@ch_2_d] [@ch_2]he paused, listening to the forest's song.
Liam nodded, a strange understanding in his eyes. "It's like the woods are alive," he murmured, looking around.
Maria felt a pang of helplessness but clung to hope. "We have to keep going," she said, her resolve unbroken.
David led the way, his eyes scanning the trees for any sign of danger. "Stay close," he instructed, glancing back to ensure his family was following.
Maria held her sons' hands, feeling the warmth and strength emanating from them. "We'll get through this," she reassured, more to herself than anyone else.
Liam[/@ch_3_d]"We're almost there,"[/@ch_3_d] [@ch_3]he said, hope brightening his transformed features.
Ethan squeezed his mother's hand gently. "We can do this," he affirmed with a brave smile.
David quickened his pace, feeling a weight lift as they neared civilization. "Just a little further," he encouraged, determination fueling his every step.
