Jacob James, a ten-year-old boy with short black hair, striking green eyes, and fair skin, sits on his bed in black clothes, staring at the ceiling. It’s his birthday, but he feels uneasy. Henry’s World is quiet outside, the kind of quiet that only comes when everyone is at school or playing in distant fields. Today, however, Jacob can’t shake the feeling that something unusual is about to happen.
The voice hisses a chilling message: "On your tenth birthday, the first ten-year-old you see, your fate will entwine. Your body, not your own, until the curse unwinds." Jacob jolts upright, heart pounding, as the voice fades and the sun abruptly returns to its normal warmth. He rushes to the window, searching for a sign, but sees only empty street and distant rooftops.
Jacob[/@ch_1] paces anxiously in his room, mind racing.]
He remembers with dread that in Henry’s World, there are only a handful of boys, all older than him—and the only other ten-year-olds are girls. He imagines what would happen if he ended up in a girl’s body, feeling a knot form in his stomach. Suddenly, there’s a soft, unexpected knock at the door, startling him from his thoughts.
Jacob[/@ch_1] hesitates, then swings open the door to find a boy his age standing there, a rare sight.]
Charlie Chris, a ten-year-old with bright blue short hair, blue eyes, fair skin, and colorful clothes, stands smiling. "Hi! I’m Charlie. I just moved here from the next town over. My parents said I should introduce myself," he says, holding out a hand. Jacob blinks in surprise, barely believing his luck—and his fear—because the curse’s words echo in his mind.
Jacob staggers and looks down—he’s in Charlie’s body. The hallway seems brighter, his hands smaller and paler, clothes a riot of color instead of familiar black. In a panic, he glances at Jacob’s old body, now occupied by Charlie’s wide-eyed consciousness. "What just happened? Why do I look like you?" the other boy gasps.
The curse’s final warning haunts Jacob: if he tells anyone, he’ll be transformed into a sixteen-year-old girl forever. He considers the weight of secrecy, the strangeness of his new life, and the hope that maybe, just maybe, he’ll find a way back. For now, he can only keep silent, watching the stars emerge, uncertain of what tomorrow will bring.
