Harlen, a lively six-year-old with a head full of questions, raced across the yard, his little sister Mara toddling determinedly behind him. Their cat, Coco, with her sleek black fur, pranced gracefully beside them. They halted in front of the shimmering light that seemed to beckon them forward.
"Look, Mara! It's like magic!" exclaimed Harlen, his eyes wide with wonder.
"Go in?" Mara suggested, her tiny finger pointing at the portal, her curiosity matching her brother's.
With a shared nod and a soft meow of agreement from Coco, they stepped into the glowing light.
The trio emerged in a land unlike any they had seen before. Harlen gasped as he took in the sight of Ireland's legendary green fields, while Mara giggled as a gentle breeze tousled her hair.
"Meow," Coco purred, trotting ahead on the soft, dewy grass.
"This must be Ireland!" Harlen declared excitedly, recalling stories told by his grandfather.
Harlen and Mara watched in amazement as the leprechauns twirled and leaped with joy. Coco sat nearby, her tail flicking in rhythm with the lively tune.
"Can we join?" Harlen asked eagerly.
One of the leprechauns, with a twinkle in his eye, beckoned them over. Mara, laughing, held Harlen's hand as they joined the dance, their feet light and free.
After their dance, the leprechauns led them to a quaint cottage, where a kindly old woman served them slices of warm soda bread. Harlen savored the taste, while Mara nibbled contentedly.
"Thank you! This is delicious," Harlen said with a grateful smile.
"Yummy!" agreed Mara, her face smeared with crumbs.
Harlen lay on his back, gazing at the colorful sky, while Mara cuddled close to Coco.
"I wish we could stay forever," Harlen mused, his heart full of the day's wonders.
"Home soon?" Mara asked, a hint of sleepiness in her voice.
"Yes, but we'll always remember this," Harlen promised, taking her hand as they watched the sun dip below the horizon.
Hand in hand, with Coco leading the way, they stepped back through the portal. The backyard welcomed them with its familiar sights and sounds.
"That was the best adventure ever!" Harlen exclaimed, his voice filled with excitement.
"Again soon?" Mara asked, looking up at her brother with hopeful eyes.
"Maybe one day," Harlen replied, grinning as Coco nuzzled against them, content to be home.
