Mary wandered through the enchanted forest, her eyes wide with amazement at the chocolate trees towering above her. Their branches drooped sadly, and she could almost hear their soft, mournful sighs. A nearby squirrel, Nutty, chattered energetically, hopping from one chocolate branch to another.
"Why are the trees so sad, Nutty?" Mary asked, her voice filled with concern.
"Someone is stealing their branches!" Nutty replied, his tiny eyes darting around suspiciously.
Mary and Nutty trudged along the crumb-strewn path, determined to find the culprit. The forest grew denser, and shadows danced between the trees as the sun dipped lower in the sky.
"We must find out who’s behind this," Mary declared, clutching her coat tighter against the cool evening breeze.
"I’ve heard tales of a goblin named Grizzle who loves chocolate more than anything," Nutty whispered conspiratorially.
Mary gasped as she saw the fortress, its walls made entirely of chocolate branches. Grizzle, a mischievous goblin with twinkling eyes, was busy adding yet another branch to his structure.
"Stop right there, Grizzle!" Mary called out, stepping forward bravely.
"Why should I? This is my masterpiece!" Grizzle sneered, not pausing in his work.
"The forest needs its trees to be whole and happy. Without them, there won't be any more chocolate for anyone," Mary reasoned, her voice filled with earnestness.
"But... my fortress..." Grizzle hesitated, glancing at his creation with regret.
"You can always visit the trees and enjoy their chocolate without taking from them," Nutty suggested cheerfully.
Mary, Nutty, and even Grizzle watched as the forest thrummed with life once more. The trees stood tall and proud, their branches swaying gently in the breeze.
"Thank you for helping us, Grizzle," Mary smiled, feeling the warmth of the sun on her face.
"I suppose it does feel better to share," Grizzle admitted, a small smile tugging at his lips.
Mary turned to leave, a newfound appreciation for the magic of the forest in her heart.
"Come back soon, Mary!" Nutty called out, waving a tiny paw.
"I will, and I'll bring more friends!" Mary promised, as she made her way back home, the sweet scent of chocolate lingering in the air.
