Eliot, an orphan with cautious eyes and a secret spark in his fingertips, stands at the edge of the pier, his breath visible in the chilly air.
Mara, sharp-eyed and guarded, lingers nearby, her hands buried deep in her patched coat pockets.
Felix, a wide-eyed stranger with a notebook clutched to his chest, edges closer, curiosity overtaking caution.
Jonas, pale and thin, his face both familiar and changed, steps from the shadows—he vanished years ago, now returned.
"Why does it feel like the ship’s watching us?"
"Because it is," Eliot murmurs, his gaze fixed on the shifting glyphs along the hull.
Felix hesitates, notebook trembling in his grip. Jonas steps forward, his voice oddly hollow.
"I think... we have to go. It’s been calling me every night since I came back."
Eliot exchanges a wary look with Mara before following, the others behind. As they climb aboard, the gangplank retracts with a grinding sigh, sealing their fate.
The deck lurches, tossing the teens together. Mara grips the railing, knuckles white.
"Where are we? This isn’t any ocean I’ve seen," she says, voice edged with fear.
Felix scribbles frantic notes, trying to capture the shifting sky.
"It feels like the ship’s between places," Eliot whispers, sparks flickering at his fingertips.
Jonas freezes, memories flooding back—he’s seen these beings before, in dreams and nightmares.
"Don’t let them touch you. They feed on secrets... and fear," he warns, voice shaking.
Eliot steps forward, gathering his courage—and a surge of hidden power—while Mara pulls a hidden blade from her boot, eyes narrowed.
"Let’s see if nightmares bleed," she mutters, tension crackling in the air.
Felix reaches for the case, but Eliot stops him.
"Wait. We need to understand what binds the ship," he says, his voice trembling with both fear and determination.
Mara scans the runes, recognizing fragments from her own past—a life she’s tried to forget.
"This curse... it’s tied to us. We’re part of the story now," she whispers.
One by one, they reveal truths long hidden: Jonas confesses where he disappeared to, Mara faces the darkness she fled, Eliot unleashes his power, and Felix reveals why he came to Tidemist Cove.
With every secret spoken, the runes brighten, the monsters dissolve, and the cursed compass slows.
"We’re stronger together," Eliot says, hope rising in his voice.
Exhausted but changed, the four teens step onto solid ground. The ship, its runes now dim, slips silently back into the mist—waiting for the next lost soul.
"Did that really happen?" Felix asks, awestruck.
"We’ll never tell," Mara replies, a rare smile flickering across her face as the sun rises over Tidemist Cove.
