Chris stood at the entrance, his nerves tingling with anticipation. At 42, with black hair and a bit of extra weight, he wore his favorite jeans and a worn T-shirt, ready for a change. "This is it," he whispered to himself as he pushed open the door, the bell chiming softly above him.
The Man nodded as Chris approached. "Looking for a job, are we?" he asked, his voice smooth and inviting. "Yes," Chris replied, his eyes scanning the vibrant covers around him. The man reached under the counter and handed Chris a drink. "On the house. It'll help with the nerves," he offered with a wink.
Chris glanced down as his body began to change. His frame slimmed, muscles tightened, and his hair lightened to a golden blonde. His clothes morphed into the casual attire of a teenager, and he felt a rush of vitality he hadn't known in years. "What's happening to me?" he gasped, his voice now youthful and clear.
The Man leaned forward, eyes twinkling. "Welcome, Ben," he said, handing him a ring. Chris blinked, the name feeling strangely right. "My name is Ben," he agreed, slipping the ring onto his finger.
Ben stared at his reflection in a nearby mirror, awe and disbelief mingling in his expression. "I'm Spider-Man," he murmured, flexing his fingers and feeling the power coursing through him. The man chuckled softly. "Indeed, you are. But remember, with great power comes great responsibility," he counseled.
Ben grinned, excitement bubbling within him. By day, he would work among the stories he loved, and by night, he would become a hero. "I'm ready," he declared, stepping into his new life, the city awaiting its newest protector.
