James Jacob, a 16-year-old boy with short pink hair, green eyes, and fair skin, blinks awake beneath a canopy bed draped in shimmering pink velvet. He stretches, but something feels wrong—he’s not in his own body. Instead, he looks down to see wrinkled hands, a long gray beard, and the heavy robes of a wizard headmaster. Across the room, a much smaller body sits bolt upright in bed, eyes wide with horror. John Gray, the wizard headmaster, now in the body of a 16-year-old boy, glares back at him, equally dismayed.
John Gray storms into the office, tripping over the oversized sleeves of James Jacob's school robe. James follows, clutching the headmaster's staff awkwardly, as several enchanted quills scribble furiously behind the desk.
"This is an absolute disaster! I only just became headmaster today—now I'm trapped in a teenager's body!"
"Try being me! I was supposed to start my first day as a wizard student, and now I look like a grumpy old man with a beard that keeps getting in my mouth!"
The portraits snicker, and a floating book hovers between them, flipping open to a page titled "Unintended Transmutations."
James, in John Gray's body, tries to maintain composure as students bow and call him "Headmaster." Meanwhile, John, stuck in James's teenage form, is nearly trampled by excited first-years.
"I have no idea how to run a school. What am I supposed to do about the dragon in the greenhouse?"
"You think that's bad? Try surviving potions class when you can't even reach the top shelf!"
A group of teachers approaches, expecting answers, but both "headmasters" fumble, causing magical chaos as spells misfire and books burst into song.
Desperate to undo the swap, James and John search the library for a solution. They bicker over incantations, mispronouncing words and accidentally making a stack of books sprout wings.
"Maybe if we work together, we can reverse this. You handle the words, I'll handle the wand."
"Fine, but if you mess up my beard, I’ll turn your hair blue for a week."
As they recite the spell, a blast of sparkling light erupts—leaving them both unchanged, but now covered in magical confetti.
Exhausted, James and John slump on a stone bench. They watch a group of friends practicing levitation by the fountain, their faces reflecting a mix of envy and realization.
"Maybe this is some kind of lesson. I never understood what you students go through."
"And I never realized how hard it is to be in charge of everyone. I guess we're stuck until we figure it out together."
A gentle breeze stirs the petals, and for the first time, they both smile at the absurdity of their predicament.
James and John, still in swapped bodies, stride side by side into the hall. They exchange a determined nod, ready to face the challenges of their new roles—at least, until they can swap back.
"Let's get through this together. Maybe we’ll even learn something."
"Just promise me you won’t set the potions lab on fire again."
As the enchanted ceiling shifts from dawn pink to golden, the unlikely duo prepares for a day of magic, mischief, and hopefully, a solution to their swap.
