Draco Malfoy lay in his four-poster bed, staring at the ornate ceiling above, his mind swirling with thoughts of his brother, Serpent Malfoy, who was always an ominous presence in his life. "I wish I had never been born a Malfoy," he whispered into the night, his voice barely rising above a breath. His eyes fluttered shut as he succumbed to a restless sleep, unaware of the magic at work around him.
Draco awoke with a start, confusion settling in as he realized the unfamiliar surroundings. His gaze shifted to the bed across from him, where Harry Potter lay, still asleep. Panic surged through him as he hurried to the mirror, only to find an identical lightning bolt scar on his forehead, mirrored on the opposite side from Harry's. "What in Merlin's name?" he muttered, shock evident in his reflection.
Draco splashed cold water on his face, hoping to wake from what surely seemed a bizarre dream. His heart raced as he touched the scar, its jagged line a symbol of a life not his own. "I'm... Harry's twin?" he whispered, the reality settling in like a heavy cloak. The weight of this new identity pressed on him, yet, a strange sense of freedom flickered at the edges of his consciousness.
As Draco entered the hall, he was met with smiles and greetings, a warmth foreign to his experience at the Malfoy Manor. Hermione Granger, with her bushy hair and eager eyes, waved him over. "Morning, Draco! Ready for Potions?" she asked, her voice bright and welcoming. He nodded, feeling an unfamiliar warmth spread through him at the prospect of friendship and acceptance.
Draco sat beside Harry, their presence a curious sight to their classmates. Professor Snape, with his usual scowl, eyed them with intrigue. "Mr. Malfoy, Mr. Potter," he drawled, his gaze shifting between them. Draco felt the weight of expectation heavier than ever but also the thrill of potential. This was a chance to redefine himself, away from the shadow of his brother.
Draco walked side by side with Harry, their steps in sync. "It's strange, isn't it?" Harry mused, glancing at Draco. "Strange, but... good," Draco replied, a smile breaking across his face for perhaps the first time in years. He no longer felt the burden of his family's name, only the promise of a new path forward.
