Dennise and Maria sit shoulder to shoulder, legs curled beneath them, their attention fixed on a popular dinosaur documentary playing on the screen. The room is alive with the gentle hum of the air conditioner and the occasional crunch of popcorn. Outside, birds chirp faintly, their song almost lost beneath the dramatic narration of the video.
"I bet I could outrun a Velociraptor if it really came down to it," Dennise muses, smirking as she tosses a piece of popcorn into her mouth.
"Not a chance! They were like the cheetahs of the Cretaceous, Jenna. You'd be dino-lunch in seconds," Maria teases, nudging her friend with an elbow.
Suddenly, the documentary's narrator's voice deepens, echoing ominously. Both Dennise and Maria clutch the couch cushions, eyes wide, as the world around them begins to blur. A prickling tingling sensation crawls up their arms, and a low rumble vibrates through their bones.
"Jenna, do you feel that? What is happening to the room?!" Maria cries out, her voice quivering in disbelief.
"I… I don't know! Are we dreaming?" Dennise responds, her words slurring as her hands start to morph before her eyes.
In the chaos, Dennise's fingers fuse into powerful claws, and her jaw elongates into a toothy snout. Maria feels her spine arch and tail sprout, her laughter turning into a deep, guttural roar. The world rights itself, and the living room resolves into a primeval jungle, lush and wild.
"Marisa! Look at us—this can't be real, right?!" Dennise bellows, her voice a rumbling growl that shakes the leaves.
"This is insane! But… I feel so strong! And hungry… really, really hungry," Maria replies, marveling at her new claws and whipping tail.
Dennise takes a tentative step, her talons sinking into the mossy earth. Instincts she never knew surface, urging her to hunt, to run, to roar. Maria lowers her snout to sniff the air, picking up the scent of another dinosaur nearby—perhaps prey, perhaps a rival.
"Should we try to find a way back? Or… do we explore?" Dennise asks, her voice filled with equal parts fear and excitement.
"Let's see what this world has to offer. It's not every day you get to be a dinosaur," Maria grins, baring rows of sharp teeth.
The thrill of movement fills them with exhilaration. Dennise lets out a triumphant roar, shaking the treetops, while Maria bounds beside her, eyes wide with wonder at every new sight. For a moment, all worries about returning home fade away, replaced by the pure, primal joy of discovery.
"If only our subscribers could see us now. This would make for the wildest vlog ever,"
"Maybe one day we'll tell them. For now, let's find out what kind of dinosaurs we are—and what adventures this world holds,"
Side by side, Dennise and Maria settle atop a rocky outcrop, gazing over the primeval landscape. The fear of the unknown lingers, but is outshone by a sense of awe and possibility. Here, in this strange new form, they’ve found an adventure beyond their wildest dreams.
"Whatever happens next, we face it together," Maria rumbles, her eyes reflecting the colors of the setting sun.
"Together. Even if we have to invent dino-YouTube," Dennise replies, their laughter echoing deep into the ancient night.
