Amanda and her friend Adam carefully approached the crumbling structure, its sagging roof barely visible through the overgrown foliage. The allure of the unknown beckoned them inside, where dust motes danced in the fading light.
"This place is amazing," Adam whispered, his voice barely audible over the creaking floorboards.
Betina, with a mischievous grin, trailed behind, her fingers brushing against the walls that seemed to whisper secrets of their own.
Adam knelt down, curiosity getting the better of him. With a determined twist, he broke the lock, revealing the contents inside. A poppet, its button eyes gleaming ominously, lay nestled beside a yellowed piece of parchment.
"Let's see what this does!" Betina exclaimed, reading the incantation aloud. The poppet twitched, its limbs jerking to life as if awakening from a long slumber.
Jake, arriving just in time, witnessed the ensuing chaos. "Watch out!" he shouted, grabbing a bat and striking the poppet, its wooden body clattering to the floor with a hollow thud.
Amanda led the way, her heart pounding in her chest, as they fled from the scene. Behind them, the poppet stirred, its promise of revenge lingering in the air like a chilling whisper.
