The air is thick with heat and anticipation as the lioness strains against the coarse ropes that bite into her flesh. Her eyes, wild and defiant, reflect the darkening sky above. The scent of spices mingles with the acrid tang of smoke, and her breath comes in desperate, hissing pants. Around her, three hyenas pace, their mottled coats catching the firelight as they jabber and chortle amongst themselves.
First Hyena, the largest and oldest of the trio, circles close to the pole, sniffing the air. "Soon, sisters, the feast will be upon us. Patience makes the meat all the sweeter." Second Hyena, younger and sly, giggles, her tongue lolling as she fans the fire with a broken branch. "She thought herself queen of the plains, but tonight, she is but supper."
The lioness[/@ch_1] throws her head back, her muscles straining as she claws at the unyielding bonds. The pole creaks under her weight, but the knots remain tight.]
Her defiance flickers; pain etches itself into her features as the fire bites deeper. The hyenas jeer, their eyes gleaming with cruel delight. Third Hyena, smallest but fiercest, crouches low and grins. "Fight as you will, your kingdom crumbles tonight," she sneers, her laughter sharp as the crack of burning wood.
A hush falls over the clearing, broken only by the steady crackle of the fire. The hyenas draw closer, their anticipation palpable. "The meal is ready," murmurs the first hyena, her voice reverent as she signals her sisters.
Grease drips from their jaws as they feast, their hunger matched only by their satisfaction. The air is thick with the scent of cooked meat and the remnants of spice. "Never has a meal tasted so sweet," the second hyena boasts, licking her chops as the others nod in agreement.
The hyenas sprawl in the cooling grass, bellies full and spirits high. Above them, the stars burn bright, witnesses to the rise and fall of the savanna’s queen. In the stillness that follows, the echoes of laughter and the scent of smoke linger, a reminder that even the mightiest may one day become a feast for shadows.
