The girl stands in front of the restaurant, glancing at her watch, her breath visible in the cool night. Zhang Youxiang, a young man with a slight air of nervousness, approaches, slightly out of breath. "Sorry, my mom just finished ironing my shirt and insisted I wear this one before letting me leave."
The couple sits at a corner table, Zhang repeatedly checking his phone. "My mom wants to know where we're sitting, if the AC is too strong, and she asked me to take a photo of the napkins to check hygiene." The girl raises an eyebrow, trying to hide her bemusement.
Zhang quickly pulls out his phone, initiating a video call. "Mom, how do I eat this beef?" The voice on the other end, gentle yet firm, responds. "Eat the veggies first! Blow on the meat so you don’t burn your tongue!" The restaurant falls silent for a moment, diners exchanging amused glances.
Suddenly, Zhang records a voice message. "Mom, she said she’s busy later… Okay, I’ll kiss her now so you can get a feel for your future daughter-in-law." He leans in, intent on following through.
She grabs the menu, blocking him with a practiced ease, a smile playing on her lips. "Sorry, my mom says I can’t let a guy kiss me on the first date." Rising gracefully, she walks away, leaving Zhang frozen in surprise.
Zhang texts her, "My mom says your response was very well-mannered. She approves of you!" With a roll of her eyes, she blocks him immediately, a small laugh escaping her lips.
