Aarav walked down the cobblestone path, his steps echoing in the silence as he approached the old library. The building loomed before him, its gothic architecture shadowed by the fading light. Eager to delve into another horror novel, Aarav pushed open the heavy wooden door.
The dim glow of the library's lamps cast long shadows as Aarav wandered through the aisles. Books whispered tales of mystery and fear, the ambiance both thrilling and unsettling. The only other presence was Mr. Malhotra, the caretaker, who sat behind the counter, his eyes fixed intently on Aarav.
As twilight deepened into night, Aarav lost track of time, engrossed in his book. When he finally looked up, the library was empty, and the silence was profound. He approached Mr. Malhotra with a question lingering in his mind. "Kya aap library band nahi karenge?" he asked cautiously.
Mr. Malhotra's lips curled into a mysterious smile. "Library toh band ho gayi hai, beta. Ab bas tum aur main hain yahaan." The words echoed in the stillness, sending a chill down Aarav's spine.
Aarav returned his book to the shelf, the quiet unnerving. Just as he turned to leave, a voice whispered his name from the shadows. Aarav spun around, heart pounding, but saw only the shadowy form of Mr. Malhotra at a distance, still smiling.
Aarav hurried to the library's entrance, but the gate wouldn't budge. Above it, an old plaque read ominously, "Yahan se koi wapas nahi jaata." Panic surged through him. He shouted for help, but the only response was his own echo. Frantically, he checked his phone, only to find it dead, devoid of any signal.
The library lights flickered, casting a ghostly glow. Aarav watched in horror as Mr. Malhotra's face began to shift, morphing into something inhuman. His eyes turned a haunting white as he advanced towards Aarav, who stumbled back, heart racing.
In a desperate bid to escape, Aarav backed into a corner, his breath shallow. The caretaker's face was now a grotesque mask, devoid of humanity. With a final flicker, the lights went out, plunging the library into darkness. Silence reigned, broken only by the faint whisper of Aarav's name, echoing through the void.
