Eliza clutched her coat tightly around her, the thin fabric offering little warmth against the biting cold. Her eyes scanned the towering structure before her, its windows dark and foreboding. Ignoring the unsettling stories she had heard, she pushed open the creaking gate and made her way up the gravel path, her footsteps echoing in the silence.
Eliza set her suitcase down beside a dusty armchair and glanced around the room. The mirrors, with their intricate frames, lined the walls, each reflecting her image back at her. As she moved, the reflections seemed to shift slightly, their expressions not quite matching her own. "It's just my imagination," she muttered, trying to dismiss the unsettling feeling creeping over her.
Eliza paced the hallway, her unease growing with each passing minute. She paused in front of a particularly large mirror, her reflection grinning back at her with a malevolence she couldn't comprehend. "What do you want from me?" she whispered, her voice trembling. The reflection merely continued to smile, sending a chill down her spine.
Eliza jiggled the doorknob frantically, her heart pounding in her chest. "Please, let me out," she pleaded, her voice breaking. The mirrors around her began to crack, revealing a dark void behind the glass. Shadows started to spill into the room, and her reflection stepped out from the mirror, its eyes unblinking and its smile twisted.
Eliza backed away, her eyes darting from one reflection to another. They surrounded her, their whispers growing louder, filling her head with chaos. "You're home now," they chanted in unison, their voices echoing through the room. She felt the cold grip of fear tighten around her heart as she faced the dark truth of the mansion's curse.
Eliza closed her eyes, taking a deep breath to steady herself. She opened them again, meeting the gaze of her reflection. "I won't be afraid anymore," she declared, her voice firm. As she faced her fears head-on, the reflections began to dissolve one by one, their whispers fading into silence, until only she remained.
