Raj clutched his camera tightly as he stood at the edge of the village, staring at the mansion that loomed like a specter of its own. The air was thick with the scent of rain and old wood, and a chill ran down his spine as he recalled the stories he'd heard. The villagers whispered of strange noises and ghostly apparitions, tales that seemed all too real in the presence of this foreboding structure.
Raj hesitated at the threshold, his heart pounding in his chest. As he stepped inside, the chill of the air seemed to seep into his bones. The faded grandeur of the mansion was apparent in the peeling wallpaper and dust-covered chandeliers. He switched on his flashlight, the beam slicing through the darkness, revealing the corridor that lay ahead.
Raj's eyes were drawn to an old photograph hanging crookedly on the wall. The woman's face was ethereal, her eyes a window to her soul, filled with an indescribable sadness. He was about to move on when he heard it—a voice as clear as day. "Raj..." It was unmistakably his name, whispered with an urgency that sent shivers down his spine.
He spun around, expecting to see someone standing there, but the room was empty. Raj shook his head, trying to dismiss it as his imagination playing tricks. Yet, the voice came again, clearer and more insistent. "You didn't save my family," it lamented, each word dripping with sorrow and accusation.
Panic surged through Raj as he realized the woman from the photograph was more than just a memory. Her presence filled the room, a palpable grief that seemed to suffocate him. He struggled to speak, to call for help, but his voice was swallowed by the oppressive silence. "Now it's your turn," the voice echoed, a chilling promise that left him paralyzed with fear.
Feeling the walls closing in, Raj stumbled backward, finding himself against a cupboard. Closing his eyes in desperation, he willed the nightmare to end. When he dared to open them again, he was bewildered to find himself inside the cupboard, the room beyond just a whisper of a dream. The mansion had claimed him, just as it had claimed others before.
