Lena wiped her hands on her jeans, her heart pounding with anticipation as she pulled back the sheet to reveal the mirror. Its frame was intricately carved with twisting vines and eerie faces, their expressions frozen in silent screams. Her grandmother had always warned her to stay out of the attic, but curiosity had finally gotten the better of her.
Lena leaned closer, her breath fogging the glass as the scene unfolded before her eyes. She recognized the town square, but it was different—older, and filled with people she had never seen before. A chill ran down her spine, and she stepped back, shaking her head to clear the image.
Lena felt a sudden urge to leave, her grandmother's voice echoing in her mind. "Stay away from the mirror, Lena. It's not safe," she had always said. Ignoring the warning, Lena turned back to the mirror, unable to resist its pull.
Lena gasped, stumbling backward. "Who are you?" she whispered, her voice barely audible over the pounding of her heart. The figure's lips curled into a cruel smile, and Lena felt an overwhelming sense of dread.
Lena watched in horror, tears streaming down her face as the town's darkest secrets were laid bare. She realized that the mirror held the key to the past, a past that was still very much alive and dangerous. "I have to do something," she resolved, her voice trembling.
Lena took a deep breath, her mind racing with possibilities. She knew she couldn't face this alone, but she also couldn't ignore the call to action. The mirror had chosen her for a reason, and she was determined to uncover the truth, no matter the cost.
