Matt gazed upwards, his brow furrowed in confusion. Emily, his sister, stood beside him, her eyes squinting into the inky void. "I swear it was there yesterday," Matt insisted. "Maybe it's just hiding behind a cloud," Emily replied, but her voice lacked conviction. As they watched, a shape began to form where the star had vanished, slowly descending from the heavens.
A low, vibrating hum reverberated through the walls, shaking Matt and Emily awake. The power flickered and died, leaving the room in shadow. "A storm?" Emily murmured, but the absence of wind or rain contradicted her words. Outside, a strange glow lit the horizon, casting long shadows that seemed to dance and writhe. Stepping onto the porch, they saw tall, thin figures gliding between the trees, their movements unnaturally smooth.
Matt and Emily froze as the creature turned its head towards them. The hum emanated from its featureless form, growing louder and more intense. "We have to go," Emily whispered, her grip tightening on Matt's arm. They raced inside, bolting the doors, but the vibrating resonance grew unbearable. Turning to flee, they stumbled upon another figure in the kitchen, its elongated form silent, yet breathing—watching.
The farm buzzed with activity as police swarmed the area, but Matt and Emily were nowhere to be found. In the field, where the mysterious glow had hovered, lay a perfectly scorched circle, as if the earth itself had been branded. Above, the night sky was forever altered; the missing star was not alone—an entire cluster had vanished, leaving only darkness in its wake.
