Emily tightened her grip on the flashlight, the beam flickering as if reluctant to pierce the darkness.
"I shouldn't have come here alone," she whispered to herself, a shiver running down her spine.
A sudden rustling behind her made Emily spin around, heart pounding. She saw nothing but the swaying shadows, yet the feeling of being watched was undeniable.
"Who's there?" she called out, trying to sound braver than she felt.
A shadowy figure emerged from the darkness, its eyes glowing a sinister red. It moved with a silent, predatory grace, inching closer to Emily.
"This can't be real," she gasped, backing away slowly.
Her breath came in ragged gasps, each step feeling like an eternity. The path twisted and turned, the way out obscured by fear and confusion.
"I have to find a way out," she muttered, desperation lending her speed.
Emily panted heavily, relief flooding her as she put distance between herself and the forest's edge. The malevolent whisper of the woods faded, leaving only the sound of her own heartbeat.
"I'll never go back there," she vowed, glancing back at the now silent trees.
