Alex sat on the familiar bench, feeling a mix of nostalgia and apprehension. It had been two years since he last visited this place under such peculiar circumstances. The memory of that night lingered in his mind, like a half-remembered dream. He glanced at the moon, its color reminding him of old tales of mystery and magic.
Alex froze, fear gripping him as he watched the strange appendage rise higher. His heart thundered in his chest. Just as panic threatened to overtake him, a figure dressed in black rushed down the nearby stairs. Sam, the enigmatic stranger from before, appeared once more.
"Back up! Don’t touch it!" Sam commanded, his voice urgent and firm.
The realization hit Alex like a wave. Sam was behind the mysterious occurrences by the river. But why? "Sam, is that you?" he shouted, disbelief mingling with anger and confusion.
"Yes, Alex. It's me. But you need to leave now. This isn't what it seems," Sam replied, his voice laced with a hint of regret.
Alex stepped forward, his resolve hardening. "No more games, Sam. I deserve to know the truth. Why are you doing this?"
Sam sighed deeply, his shoulders slumping under an invisible burden. "It was never supposed to be like this, Alex. I was trying to protect something... someone. The river holds secrets that are best left undisturbed."
Alex listened intently, his anger giving way to empathy. "I get it, Sam. But scaring people isn't the answer. Let me help you," he offered, extending a hand of friendship.
Sam hesitated, then nodded slowly. "Alright, Alex. Let's make things right," he agreed, a hint of relief in his eyes.
The river flowed serenely, its secrets safe for now. Alex and Sam turned away from the water, ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead, together.
