Mia stepped onto the warm sand, her eyes filled with excitement. Her friends, Jake, Sophie, and Tom, followed closely, their laughter blending with the sound of crashing waves.
"This is going to be the best vacation ever!" Sophie exclaimed, spinning around with joy.
Jake pushed aside the foliage, revealing the dark mouth of the cave.
"I bet there's treasure hidden inside," Tom suggested with a grin.
"Or ghosts," Mia teased, her voice tinged with mock fear.
Sophie ran her fingers over the carvings, her brow furrowed in curiosity.
"These look ancient," Jake observed, snapping pictures with his phone.
"It's like a history lesson in the middle of our vacation," Tom remarked, half-serious.
Mia shivered, feeling a chill that had nothing to do with the weather.
"Let's head back," Sophie suggested, casting nervous glances at the darkening sky.
Jake nodded, sensing an inexplicable tension in the air.
"Did you hear that?" Tom whispered, eyes wide with alarm.
Mia listened intently, the sound of distant whispers barely audible over the storm.
"It's just the wind," Jake tried to reassure them, though his voice lacked conviction.
Sophie clutched Mia's hand, her eyes wide with fear.
"We need to get out of here," Tom urged, standing abruptly.
"But where? The storm—" Mia began, her voice trembling.
Jake glanced back at the resort, its silhouette barely visible through the storm.
"I think we woke something up," Sophie said breathlessly.
Mia nodded silently, grateful for the safety of the open beach, even as the storm raged on around them.
