James Miller adjusted his sunglasses, excitement bubbling in his chest. Beside him, Linda Miller leafed through a map, while their two children, Ethan and Olivia, chattered about the adventures awaiting them at the Grand Canyon.
"I can't wait to see the canyon!"
"It's going to be so cool!"
James chuckled, "We’ll be there before you know it."
Linda frowned, "This doesn't look good. Maybe we should take the detour through the town."
James nodded, turning the wheel as the rain intensified, the road shimmering under the heavy downpour.
"Looks like we're stuck," James muttered, glancing at Linda with worry.
A flicker of movement caught Olivia's eye, and she whispered, "Did you see that?"
Sheriff Tom offered a tight-lipped smile, "Evenin', folks. Car trouble?"
James nodded, "Yes, it just stopped. Any chance of a mechanic nearby?"
Sheriff Tom shook his head slowly, "Not tonight. Best you stay put till mornin'."
Linda whispered, "This place gives me the creeps."
James reassured her, "It's just for one night."
"What do you think's in there?" Ethan whispered, curiosity mingling with dread.
"I don't know, but I think we should tell Mom and Dad," Olivia replied, pulling him away.
"I think it's time you folks learned the truth about this town," Sheriff Tom sneered, stepping forward ominously.
Linda grabbed James's arm, fear gripping her heart as they prepared to face whatever dark secrets awaited them.
