Detective Alex Morgan sat at their cluttered desk, surrounded by stacks of unsolved case files. Whiskers, Alex's sleek black cat, lounged comfortably on the windowsill, watching the rain patter against the glass. "Another night, another mystery, Whiskers," Alex sighed, flipping through the latest case.
"I think we should start with the evidence from the Greenway case," Whiskers said, startling Alex into dropping their coffee. Alex blinked rapidly, looking around the room before focusing on Whiskers. "Did you just speak?" Alex asked incredulously.
"Indeed, I did," Whiskers replied with a nonchalant flick of their ears. "I've been observing long enough and figured it's time to lend a paw." Alex chuckled, the initial surprise giving way to intrigue. "Well, this changes everything," they murmured, eyeing the cat with newfound respect.
Alex stared at the board, now filled with sticky notes and photos, each representing a piece of the puzzle. Whiskers, perched on the desk, pawed at a map pinned to the wall. "Start here," Whiskers suggested, their gaze sharp and focused.
Alex glanced down at Whiskers, their unlikely but now indispensable partner. "Let's see what we can uncover today," Alex stated confidently. Whiskers nodded, their tail swaying rhythmically as they trotted alongside Alex.
Alex leaned back in their chair, a satisfied smile playing on their lips. Whiskers curled up on a stack of papers, eyes half-closed. "We make a good team, don't we?" Whiskers purred contentedly. "The best," Alex agreed, already looking forward to their next case together.
