Detective Alex sat in the waiting area, clutching a small token from a past they couldn't fully remember.
"This place feels oddly familiar," Alex murmured, glancing at the other patrons, all lost in their own thoughts.
Alex walked briskly down the street, holding a file marked "Confidential."
"Memory thefts... but why these specific targets?" Alex wondered aloud, scanning the faces of pedestrians for any sign of familiarity.
Riley, a street-savvy informant with sharp eyes and a quick wit, approached Alex.
"Heard you're digging into the memory heists," Riley said, handing over a data chip. "This might help."
Alex plugged the data chip into a console, watching as images and names flashed across the screen.
"These are...my memories?" Alex whispered, recognizing faces and places from their fragmented past.
Dr. Evelyn, a brilliant but morally ambiguous scientist, stepped from the shadows. "I knew you'd find me, Alex," she said, her voice calm.
"Why did you take them, Evelyn?" Alex demanded, emotions swirling as they faced someone from a life they barely remembered.
Alex stood with Riley, the weight of newfound memories settling in.
"I remember now," Alex said softly, a mix of relief and sorrow in their voice. "The truth was always there, just waiting to be found."
"And what will you do with it?" Riley asked, looking at Alex with curiosity.
"Start over, and maybe find some peace," Alex replied, watching as the city came alive with possibilities.
