Lila stood at the edge of the forest, clutching the letter that had arrived that morning. The name signed at the bottom was unmistakable—her twin, Eva, who had vanished without a trace years ago.
"I must be imagining things," she murmured to herself, tracing the signature with trembling fingers. But the pull of the woods was undeniable, an old connection stirring deep within her.
Lila hesitated at the forest's edge, memories rushing back of the games they used to play here, of Eva's laughter that seemed to linger in the breeze.
Aiden, a childhood friend who had often joined their adventures, stepped out from behind a tree, his face a mix of concern and determination.
"You got the letters too, didn’t you?" he asked, holding up a similar note.
"Yes," Lila replied, her voice barely above a whisper. "I have to know if it's really her."
The letters had spoken of a clearing—a place Eva had loved. Lila could almost hear her sister's voice guiding them, urging them onward.
"Do you remember the stories she used to tell? About a hidden world within these woods?" Aiden asked, his voice a mix of nostalgia and apprehension.
"I thought they were just tales," Lila replied, her heart pounding with every step. "But maybe she was trying to tell us something."
Lila felt a shiver run through her as she stepped into the clearing, the air alive with a sense of anticipation. Eva's presence was almost tangible here, as if she had never left.
"Look," Aiden said, pointing to the stones. "These weren’t here before."
"And the letters mentioned them," Lila added, her mind racing with possibilities. "It's like she left us a message."
Lila knelt beside the stones, tracing the symbols etched into their surface. A jolt of recognition coursed through her—this was Eva's writing, a secret language they had invented as children.
"It's a map," she breathed, the realization dawning on her. "She found something, something incredible."
"And she wanted us to find it too," Aiden added, his eyes wide with awe.
Lila stood, her resolve firm. The forest held the truth of Eva's disappearance, and perhaps even a chance to reunite with her sister in a way she had never imagined.
"I’m going in," she said, determination in her voice. "Are you with me?"
"Always," Aiden replied, stepping into the circle beside her.
Together, they took that final step, ready to unlock the mysteries of the woods and follow the echoes of Eva's voice, wherever it might lead them.
