Lila stopped at the edge of the clearing, her eyes wide with surprise at the sight before her. The carnival, once a place of joy and excitement, now lay in eerie silence. "I can't believe we found it," she whispered, her voice trembling slightly.
Marcus ran ahead, his footsteps echoing on the cracked pavement. "This is incredible! It's like it was waiting for us," he exclaimed, his excitement contagious. A carousel began to spin slowly, its haunting melody filling the air.
Tia gazed up at the Ferris wheel, memories flooding back. "Remember when we used to come here every summer? Before everything changed?" she asked, her voice tinged with nostalgia and sadness.
Lila picked up a faded photograph, her heart skipping a beat as she recognized the faces. "These are... these are us," she said, her voice barely a whisper. Marcus leaned closer, his brow furrowed in confusion. "But how? We never took these," he murmured.
Tia turned to Lila, her eyes filled with unshed tears. "I never wanted us to drift apart," she admitted, her voice choked with emotion. Lila nodded, her own heart heavy with regret. "We can't change the past, but maybe this place can help us heal," she suggested softly.
Marcus smiled, feeling a weight lift from his shoulders. "Let's make a promise," he proposed, "to never let anything come between us again." As the last lights of the carnival dimmed, the three friends stood together, their bond stronger than before, ready to face whatever the future held.
