Jayla awoke with a start, the unsettling chill wrapping around her like an unwelcome embrace. She sat up in bed, eyes scanning the room for any sign of what had disturbed her peace. Nothing seemed out of place, yet an inexplicable unease gnawed at her.
"Why do I feel like something is missing?" Jayla muttered to herself, rubbing the sleep from her eyes.
Three days later, Jayla sat alone on a bench during lunch, her brother Damion's absence looming like a shadow. The whispers in her mind had grown louder, more insistent, as if urging her to pay attention.
Maya, her best friend, approached, concern etched on her face. "Have you heard from Damion?"
"No, and it's driving me crazy. It's like I can hear voices telling me where he might be, but I can't make sense of them." Jayla replied, frustration thick in her voice.
That night, Jayla lay in bed, the unease from the morning now a full-blown storm of anxiety. Her eyes fluttered shut, and she fell into a restless sleep, slipping into a world far different from her own.
In the dream, she found herself in a maze of towering hedges, the air shimmering with magic. A clock ticked loudly overhead, its hands moving with a sense of urgency she couldn't ignore.
Jayla wandered through the dream world, each step revealing more of the bizarre landscape. Figures flitted in and out of view, their features elusive and mysterious. Yet, among the chaos, she found clues—glowing stones etched with symbols, pointing the way.
"If I don't find him before the clock strikes, who knows what will happen," she whispered, determination hardening her resolve.
In the heart of the maze, Jayla stumbled upon an ancient tree, its gnarled branches stretching skyward. Carved into its bark were the final clues she needed, a map leading to Damion's location.
"I have to get to him before it's too late," Jayla declared, the ticking clock echoing in her ears.
Jayla awoke with the first light of dawn, the remnants of the dream still vivid in her mind. She knew what she had to do—find Damion before the clock ran out.
"Hold on, Damion. I'm coming," she vowed, determination burning in her eyes as she prepared to embark on her quest to rescue her brother.
