Spider-Man felt the rush of wind against his mask as he pursued the lithe figure of Black Cat across the rooftops. Below, the city was a living tapestry of lights and sounds, oblivious to the high-stakes chase taking place above. "You can't keep running forever, Cat!" he called out, his voice barely audible over the rain.
Black Cat glanced back, her silver hair shimmering under the streetlights. "Catch me if you can, Spidey!" she taunted, leaping gracefully to the next building.
Black Cat hesitated for a moment, her heart unexpectedly tugged by the sight of the boy. Eddie, with a mop of unruly hair and thin clothes, seemed lost in the vastness of the city. Without a second thought, she scooped him up, cradling him protectively. "You're coming with me, little one," she murmured.
Spider-Man landed silently behind her, his voice stern. "You can't just take him, Cat," he said, stepping forward.
Black Cat set Eddie down gently, her eyes meeting Spider-Man's with defiance. "He's safer here than out there," she argued, crossing her arms.
Spider-Man sighed, his resolve softening as he looked at the boy. "I know you're trying to help, but there are better ways," he insisted.
Eddie watched the exchange, his small voice breaking the tension. "Are you a superhero?" he asked, eyes wide with wonder.
Spider-Man stood by the window, watching the horizon. "I'll find his parents, but you can't keep him," he said softly, turning to face Black Cat.
Black Cat nodded, a rare smile playing on her lips. "I just wanted to make sure he was alright," she admitted, her gaze lingering on the sleeping boy.
Spider-Man swung through the city, the stolen jewels safely tucked away. He felt a sense of closure as he landed outside a modest home, reuniting Eddie with his tearful parents. "He's safe now," he assured them, watching as they embraced the boy.
Black Cat sighed, her fingers tracing patterns on the glass. Though she lived a life of thrill and danger, Eddie's innocent smile had touched a part of her she thought long buried. "Maybe there's hope for me yet," she mused, a faint smile on her lips as she turned to face the new day.
