Maya stood at the edge of the lake, her heart pounding with anticipation. Liam and Sophie joined her, their eyes wide with wonder.
"I can't believe it actually exists," Liam whispered, his voice barely audible over the storm.
Sophie clutched the sides of the boat, her knuckles white. "I feel like we're heading into a different world," she murmured, her voice tinged with excitement and fear.
"Stay close," Maya instructed as they neared the shore.
Liam led the way, his flashlight cutting through the gloom. "Look at this," he called, pointing to strange markings etched into a rock face.
Maya traced the symbols with her fingers. "These must be centuries old," she said, awe filling her voice.
Sophie shivered, feeling the weight of the island's history. "Do you think the stories of mythical creatures are true?" she asked, her curiosity piqued.
"There's only one way to find out," Maya replied, her determination unwavering.
Liam stepped back, his breath caught in his throat. "What is that?" he exclaimed, his voice a mix of fear and fascination.
The figure spoke, its voice echoing through the trees. "You have awakened the island's guardians. Prove your worth or face the consequences," it warned.
Maya turned to her friends, a triumphant smile on her face. "We did it," she said, relief washing over her.
Sophie nodded, her eyes reflecting the sunrise. "This adventure has changed us forever," she admitted.
Liam laughed, the tension finally dissipating. "Let's make sure we remember every moment," he suggested as they rowed back to shore.
