Addie glanced at her watch, her voice tinged with anticipation. "Zoey's wedding is in an hour," she announced. Emma, typing furiously on her computer, nodded. "Just wrapping up some work. It's hard to believe our best friend is getting married today!" Hailey smiled, glancing at Fluffy, the golden doodle, who wagged his tail happily. "Fluffy, ready to be the ring bearer?" He barked in response, and with a collective breath of excitement, they prepared to leave.
Emma looked around, her brows furrowing. "Where's Zoey?" she asked, her voice laced with worry. Hailey volunteered to check the bridal suite, returning shortly with a concerned expression. "She's not there. Her dress is still hanging, and her phone's on the table." Determination set in Addie's eyes. "We need to find her. Let’s split up and search the area," she instructed, and with a shared nod, they set off with Fluffy leading the way.
Addie called out, "Zoey! Where are you?" Her voice echoed softly as Fluffy sniffed the air, leading her to a concealed path. "Good boy, Fluffy. Let’s see where this goes," she murmured, heart pounding with hope and fear. Meanwhile, in the bridal suite, Emma discovered an ominous note, her eyes widening in disbelief. "If you want to see Zoey again, come to the old barn at midnight," she read aloud as Hailey entered, her expression mirroring Emma's growing dread.
Addie whispered cautiously, "Be careful. We don’t know what’s inside." They entered the barn, finding Zoey tied up and frightened. Hailey rushed to her side. "We’re here, Zoey. You’re safe now," she reassured. As they worked to free her, Emma demanded answers. "Who did this?" Zoey shook her head, bewildered. "I don’t know. They just grabbed me," she replied, her voice trembling.
"You’re not going anywhere," Ethan declared, blocking their path. Hailey stepped forward, defiant. "Why are you doing this?" she demanded. Ethan's grin widened. "I never wanted to marry Zoey. I was using her to hide. I escaped from prison, and needed someone to help me stay under the radar," he confessed. Realization dawned on Hailey. "You're the escaped convict from the news!" she exclaimed. A confrontation ensued, with Hailey managing to subdue him, her strength surprising everyone.
Addie secured Ethan's hands, her resolve unwavering. Emma contacted the police. "We have Ethan Blackwood at the old barn. Please send help," she instructed, her voice steady. As the police arrived, Zoey embraced her friends, gratitude shining in her eyes. "Thank you for saving me. I can’t believe he fooled me," she whispered. Addie smiled softly. "We’re just glad you’re safe," she replied. The ordeal behind them, they left the barn, the dawn of a new day promising a brighter future for their friendship and Zoey's life.
