Edgar blinked against the glare of the snow, his mind groggy from the crash. The car was on its side, windows frosted over and cracks splintering the glass like spiderwebs. Next to him, Marjorie stirred, her breath visible in the frigid air.
"Are you okay, Marjorie?" he asked, concern lacing his voice.
"I think so," she replied, her voice shaky but determined. She looked around, trying to piece together how they had ended up in this frozen wilderness.
With great effort, Edgar pushed open the door, snow cascading into the car. The pair emerged into the biting cold, the landscape around them an endless white expanse under a sky painted with the faint glow of auroras.
Marjorie wrapped her arms around herself, shivering. "We need to find shelter," she urged, her eyes scanning the horizon for any sign of refuge.
After hours of trudging through the snow, they stumbled upon a structure half-buried in ice. It was a research station, its lights flickering ominously. The silence was palpable, broken only by the crunch of their footsteps on the snow.
"I didn't expect to find anything out here," Edgar admitted, testing the door. It swung open with a groan, revealing a dimly lit interior.
Inside, the station was a disarray of scattered papers and abandoned equipment. Marjorie picked up a logbook, flipping through pages filled with cryptic notes and calculations.
"This place was operational not too long ago," she mused, glancing at Edgar. He nodded, intrigued yet wary.
As they delved deeper, Edgar and Marjorie discovered old maps and documents hinting at secret experiments conducted in the harsh conditions of the North Pole. But the more they uncovered, the more they sensed they were not alone.
"We need to be careful," Edgar warned, his eyes darting to the shadows that seemed to move on their own.
Just as they pieced together the truth, shadowy figures emerged from the depths of the station. Marjorie gasped, her heart racing as the chilling wind howled through the corridors.
Edgar grabbed her hand, pulling her towards the exit. "We have to get out of here, now!" he urged, adrenaline coursing through him as they made their escape, the mystery of the station haunting them as they disappeared into the snowy night.
