Liam stood with his hands on his hips, staring at the empty patch where the giant pumpkin once sat. Emma joined him, her eyes wide with disbelief. Noah paced nervously behind them, kicking at the loose dirt. "How can a pumpkin that size just vanish?"
"I don't know, but we need to find it before Halloween," replied Emma, determination in her voice.
"Let's look for clues," suggested Noah, pointing towards a trail of squashed pumpkin vines leading into the nearby woods.
Liam held a flashlight, casting a beam of light that danced across the forest floor. Emma and Noah walked closely behind, whispering their theories. "Do you think it was stolen?" asked Emma, her voice tinged with curiosity.
"Maybe. Or it could be something else entirely," Liam mused, squinting into the darkness.
"What's that?" Noah exclaimed, pointing to a piece of orange fabric snagged on a branch.
The friends stepped cautiously into the clearing, their breath visible in the chilly night air. Liam raised his flashlight, illuminating a group of local kids gathered around a makeshift campfire.
"Hey, that's part of the festival decorations!"[/@ch_2_d] [@ch_2]Emma exclaimed, recognizing the orange fabric draped over a nearby log.
"Did you guys take the pumpkin?" Noah asked, stepping forward.
Sam, one of the kids, stepped forward, his cheeks red with embarrassment. "We thought it would be fun to carve it ourselves," he admitted sheepishly.
"You should have asked," Liam replied, trying to keep his tone light.
"Let's get it back to the festival. We can all help carve it together," suggested Emma, her smile infectious.
The friends and local kids worked together, rolling the oversized pumpkin back to the patch. The town's streetlights twinkled in the distance like guiding stars.
"This will be the best Halloween ever," Noah declared, wiping sweat from his brow.
"Thanks for not being mad," Sam said, relief evident in his voice.
The festival was in full swing, with children in costumes darting between stalls and families gathered around the giant pumpkin. Liam, Emma, and Noah admired their handiwork, feeling a sense of accomplishment.
"We did it," Emma said, her eyes shining with happiness.
"And we made new friends along the way," Liam added, nodding towards Sam and the other kids.
"Here's to more adventures," Noah cheered, raising a cup of cider in a toast.
