Nicholas trudged along the path, his suitcase dragging behind him. The air was heavy with the scent of earth and decay, a fitting welcome to his new, unwanted home. He glanced at the imposing silhouettes of the houses, each one a looming giant casting shadows across his path.
"This place feels as gloomy as I do," he muttered to himself, tightening his grip on the handle.
Lucas straightened up, his eyes sparkling with intrigue.
"New in town, huh? I'm Lucas."
Nicholas hesitated, the weight of his promise to avoid friendships tugging at him. But there was something about Lucas that piqued his curiosity.
"I'm Nicholas. And yes, just moved here," he replied, his voice barely above a whisper.
Nathan and David Golan, the notorious brothers, were known for their constant bickering. Nathan's fists clenched, while David taunted him with a smirk.
"You think you can just push me around?" Nathan growled, stepping closer.
"Let's stay out of this," Lucas whispered to Nicholas, pulling him away from the scene.
Captain Bartolomeu Goets, the leader of the Deer Hunters, stood in a clearing, his figure outlined against the moonlit sky. His eyes scanned the treeline, watchful and wary.
"Stay vigilant. We don't know what lurks in these woods," he ordered his followers, his voice a gruff whisper.
Nicholas felt a chill run down his spine, his heart pounding in his chest.
Nicholas stood in the town square, his mind racing.
"How can no one remember him?" he wondered aloud, desperation creeping into his voice.
Just then, a soft purr caught his attention. A sleek, black cat with eyes like glowing embers approached, rubbing against his legs.
The cat leapt onto a table, its gaze intent on a dusty, leather-bound book.
"You want me to read this?" Nicholas asked, reaching out to open the tome.
As he turned the pages, the mysteries of Eldridge Hollow began to unravel before him, and with them, the hope of finding Lucas and understanding the truth that bound them all.
