Detective Evelyn Shaw, her trench coat slick with dew, ducks beneath the police tape. The body of the victim lies sprawled on the steps, blood pooling beside a silvery weapon that hums faintly with an unnatural blue glow. She crouches close, examining the scene, while the town’s antique clock ticks overhead, its hands frozen at 3:14.
Officer Mark Ridley, young and earnest, stands by with a notepad. "What do you make of this, Mark? Ever seen anything like it?"
"Not in this century, Detective. That thing doesn’t look like any knife I know."
Detective Shaw leans over the weapon, careful not to touch it. The blade is seamless, forged from a metal that seems to ripple like liquid, and tiny digital numbers pulse along the hilt.
Dr. Felix Moreau (forensic scientist, eccentric, mid-fifties, wild white hair) adjusts his glasses as he inspects the object.
"This alloy doesn’t exist on our periodic table. And the energy signature… it’s like nothing I’ve seen. It’s as if it’s out of time itself."
Officer Ridley lowers his voice, eyes darting around. "You know the stories, Detective? About the clocktower? Folks say sometimes people vanish—just blink out of existence."
Detective Shaw frowns, swirling her coffee. "Urban legends don’t kill people, Mark. But… what if this isn’t just a story? What if someone—or something—came here from another time?"
The silvery weapon begins to vibrate in Shaw’s gloved hand, emitting a soft, melodic chime. Suddenly, the clock’s mechanism lurches, gears grinding, and a shimmering portal flickers open within the tower’s heart.
A shadowy figure steps out, cloaked in futuristic armor, face obscured by a mirrored mask. They glance at the detectives, eyes glowing beneath the visor.
The Stranger (unknown assailant, agile, enigmatic presence).
"You shouldn’t have found this. That blade isn’t meant for your time,"
Detective Shaw steadies herself, heart hammering. "Who are you? Why did you kill him?"
"His actions threatened the timeline. I am an enforcer—my mission is correction, not murder. But now you know too much."
Officer Ridley stands beside Detective Shaw as forensic teams sweep the area. The Stranger and their weapon have vanished; the portal collapsed into nothingness.
"Will anyone believe us?"
"We know what we saw. Some mysteries aren’t meant to be solved… but we’ll keep looking."
