Ethan wriggles against the ropes, his cheeks flushed as he tries to roll onto his side. The garden lights flicker on, casting long shadows across the yard. A mischievous grin tugs at the edge of his lips despite his predicament.
Sophie, Ethan’s older sister, rushes to his side, kneeling down and inspecting the knots. "Ethan, what happened? Did you lose a bet or is this one of your wild experiments?" The younger boy, Lucas, stands a few feet away, wide-eyed and uncertain.
"I was trying to see if I could escape like in those magician videos… but I think I made the knots too tight," he admits, wincing as the ropes refuse to budge. Sophie shakes her head, a smile breaking through her initial worry. "Next time, maybe ask for a helper before you start your Houdini act,"
Ethan stretches his limbs, rubbing his wrists as he sits up. "Are you okay?" Lucas asks softly, relief evident in his voice. Ethan nods, grinning. "Just my pride, I guess. Thanks for saving me,"
"So, magician or escape artist, which one are you aiming to be?" Sophie teases, nudging Ethan playfully. He laughs, shaking his head. "Maybe I’ll stick to card tricks for now," he replies, the embarrassment already fading into memory.
Inside, Ethan’s laughter echoes through the halls as he regales their parents with the tale of his failed escape. Sophie and Lucas smile knowingly, sharing a secret glance as the evening draws to a close, their bond strengthened by a simple act of rescue.
