Jaxon strolled down the familiar path towards home, his backpack slung lazily over one shoulder. As he approached the corner, something unusual caught his eye—a white van parked under the shade, with "Free Candy" crudely painted on its side.
Jaxon frowned, his instincts tingling with caution. Yet, curiosity tugged at him, drawing him closer. As he hesitated, the van's sliding door suddenly creaked open, and a shadowy figure inside gestured for him to come closer.
"Hey, kid, you want some candy?" the voice called out, smooth yet unsettling. Jaxon fought the urge to step back, his heart pounding in his chest.
"Let me go!" Jaxon shouted, struggling against his captor. The van roared to life, tires screeching as it sped away from the quiet street, leaving nothing but a trail of dust in its wake.
"You won't get away with this," he muttered, his voice steady despite the fear gripping him. He scanned the interior, searching for anything that could help him break free.
Jaxon took a deep breath, adrenaline surging as he made his daring escape. The van rolled to a stop, and he bolted, running faster than he ever had before, back towards the safety of his neighborhood, his heart racing but his spirit unbroken.
