Ethan skated with ease, the puck gliding effortlessly along his stick. His focus, however, was divided. As he glanced toward the stands, he caught sight of Lila, her eyes a bright spark in the crowd. She was Jake's little sister, and therefore, off-limits. But try as he might, Ethan couldn’t deny the pull in his heart.
Jake slapped Ethan on the back, grinning ear to ear. "Great game out there, man! We're unstoppable!" Ethan forced a smile, his mind drifting back to Lila. The moral conflict gnawed at him, knowing full well the boundaries he was on the verge of crossing. "Yeah, thanks," he replied, his voice laced with uncertainty.
Ethan stood on the sidelines, his eyes fixed on Lila as she maneuvered deftly around her opponents, her movements fluid and precise. Every laugh that escaped her lips felt like a melody he couldn't ignore. "Hey, Ethan! Want to join us?" she called out, her smile infectious. His heart skipped a beat, and he nodded, stepping onto the field despite the internal warnings.
Lila sat beside Ethan, the silence between them comfortable yet charged with unspoken words. "Why do you look at me like that?" she asked softly, her gaze steady. Ethan sighed, the weight of his feelings finally breaking free. "Because you're amazing, Lila. But I know you're Jake's sister, and I don't want to ruin anything."
Ethan and Jake stood on the ice, their skates poised for movement. "So, you like my sister, huh?" Jake said, breaking the silence, his tone surprisingly light. Ethan nodded, bracing himself for the worst. But Jake simply laughed, clapping him on the shoulder. "Just don't break her heart. Or else you'll have me to deal with." Relief flooded through Ethan, and the ice beneath their skates felt more stable than ever.
Lila kicked the ball toward Ethan, her laughter echoing across the field. Beside her, Ethan was all smiles, his heart lighter than it had been in months. Together, they played under the watchful eye of Jake, who called out teasingly from the sidelines. The boundaries were clear now, but so was the path forward—a path where love and friendship could coexist.
