Elena sat at her desk, her heart pounding as Lucas walked into the room. "There he is," she thought, her eyes following him as he took his seat across the room. For months, she had harbored feelings for him, feelings she could no longer contain.
Elena approached Lucas, her palms sweaty and her heart racing. "Lucas, can I talk to you for a second?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. He nodded, and they stepped aside from the group of students heading home. "I... I like you, Lucas. I've liked you for a while now," she confessed, her eyes searching his face for any sign of reciprocation.
Lucas shifted uncomfortably, his eyes not meeting hers. "Elena, I'm sorry," he began, his voice gentle yet firm. "I can't, I mean, I don't feel that way about you." The words hung in the air, each one a small dagger to Elena's heart. She nodded, trying to keep her composure as she walked away, tears threatening to spill.
Elena sat on her bed, replaying the conversation in her mind. She picked up her diary, writing down her feelings in an attempt to make sense of them. "Maybe it was never meant to be," she wrote, her pen moving slowly across the page. Yet, a small part of her wished she could understand why.
Anna, a friend of Elena, approached her with a knowing look. "Hey, I heard about what happened with Lucas," she said, her voice filled with sympathy. "But you know, he actually likes you. He's just too scared to admit it. I overheard him talking to his friend," Anna revealed. Elena's heart skipped a beat, confusion and hope swirling within her.
Elena found Lucas sitting alone on a bench, his expression contemplative. Gathering her courage, she approached him once more. "Lucas, I heard something and I need to know if it's true," she began, her voice steady. "I didn't want to ruin what we have," he admitted, his eyes finally meeting hers. "But yes, I do have feelings for you. I was just scared." Relief washed over Elena as they both realized the truth of their hidden hearts.
