The girl unwraps her sandwich, her eyes darting to the door every few seconds. Suddenly, the boy, a year older and taller, appears at the threshold, scanning the room until his gaze lands on her. With a confident stride, he weaves through the tables, a smirk playing on his lips.
"So, what did you bring for lunch today? Is it something worth sharing, or do I have to take it by force?"
The girl sighs, holding her sandwich protectively. "You always do this. Why don't you ever bring your own lunch?"
"Because yours tastes better. And I like eating with you," he replies, flashing a grin that almost makes her forget to be annoyed.
She scrolls through her feed, noticing the boy has liked every post, even the ones from months ago. "You post too many pictures of your cat," he messages her, followed almost instantly by, "But I like them anyway."
She laughs, typing a quick reply. "Maybe you should get your own cat."
"You didn't give me your lunch yesterday. Are you mad at me or something?"
She rolls her eyes, but there's a nervous flutter in her chest. "You're so dramatic. I was just hungry yesterday, that's all."
"Well, it felt like you were avoiding me," he mutters, but his eyes are playful, not really hurt.
the boy[/@ch_2] immediately perks up.]
"Wait, do you like him or something? Should I start shipping you two?"
She laughs, shaking her head. "Stop it. It's not like that. You're the only one who steals my lunch every day, remember?"
"And don't you forget it," he says, grinning as he bumps her shoulder.
"You know, I don't really care about the lunch," he admits, glancing over at her. "I just like being around you."
She smiles, warmth blooming in her chest. "Next time, you can have the whole sandwich," she says softly, and they walk on together beneath the fading light.
