Maria stood near the entrance of a cozy café, warming her hands around a steaming mug of coffee. She watched the crowd gather around the towering Christmas tree at the center of the square, its branches heavy with snow. People were laughing, taking selfies, and enjoying the holiday cheer. Eric approached from the opposite side, his eyes scanning the crowd until they landed on the charming scene of Maria. He hesitated for a moment, feeling an inexplicable pull towards her. "Mind if I join you?" he asked, a friendly smile on his face. "Not at all," Maria replied, matching his smile with one of her own.
Eric took a sip of his coffee, savoring the rich flavor. Maria leaned back in her chair, her eyes sparkling with curiosity.
"So, what brings you to the Christmas tree bonfire?" she asked, genuinely interested.
"I heard it's quite the event," Eric replied. "Plus, the idea of a massive bonfire in the middle of a snowy night sounded too intriguing to miss."
Maria chuckled softly. "It's one of those quirky traditions that you just have to experience."
Maria and Eric joined the throng of people gathered around the tree. The warmth of their shared laughter and conversation made the cold night seem less daunting.
"I never imagined I'd meet someone so interesting at a Christmas tree burning," Eric confessed, glancing at Maria with a soft expression.
"Life is full of surprises," she replied, her cheeks flushing in the cold air.
The crackling of the fire mingled with the sound of festive music playing in the background. Maria and Eric stood side by side, their hands brushing occasionally as they watched the tree burn, its light illuminating the night.
"It's beautiful," Maria murmured, her eyes reflecting the fiery spectacle.
"It really is," Eric agreed, taking a step closer to Maria.
Maria and Eric lingered, reluctant to let the night end.
"Would you like to grab another cup of cocoa?" Maria suggested, her voice hopeful.
"I’d love that," Eric replied, his smile warm and genuine.
Together, they walked back towards the café, their footsteps crunching softly in the snow, leaving behind the memory of a night where a simple event sparked something extraordinary between them.
