Emily stood near the entrance, her fingers fiddling nervously with the edges of a crumpled note. She watched her classmates swirl on the dance floor, her heart thudding in time with the bass.
Emily took a deep breath and approached the table, her eyes scanning the crowd for Jake. Her mind raced with doubts and rehearsed lines, each one dissolving as quickly as it formed. "I can do this," she whispered to herself, clutching her note tighter.
Jake sat alone, fiddling with his phone, seemingly oblivious to the dance occurring just meters away. Emily approached him, her footsteps hesitant yet determined.
Emily took a seat beside Jake, her note crumpled in her hand. "Hey, Jake," she began, her voice barely above a whisper. "Oh, hey, Emily," he replied, looking up with a warm smile. "There's something I need to tell you," she continued, her heart pounding louder than the music.
Emily handed Jake the note, her cheeks flushed with anticipation. He unfolded it, eyes scanning the words she had poured her heart into. "Wow, Emily... I never knew," he said, looking at her with a newfound tenderness.
Jake reached for Emily's hand, his grip reassuring and warm. "Would you like to dance?" he asked, his smile inviting and genuine. "I'd love to," she replied, her nervousness melting away as they stood and joined the dance floor, lost in their own world.
