Lucy lay back, her eyes tracing the constellations that dotted the vast expanse above her. The world seemed to hold its breath as she watched, feeling a peaceful stillness envelop her. Suddenly, a bright streak of light dashed across the sky, a shooting star, leaving a trail of shimmering dust in its wake. Her heart leaped with excitement.
"I wish..." she breathed softly, closing her eyes for a moment, her thoughts veering toward Max, the boy next door who often occupied her daydreams.
Lucy sat up, her heart pounding with a mix of hope and uncertainty. The wish was simple, yet it carried the weight of her deepest desires. She longed for a chance to connect with Max, to bridge the gap that lay between their houses and their lives.
"Maybe tomorrow," she whispered to the night, her voice barely above a sigh.
Lucy rose from bed, her mind still lingering on the wish she had made. She glanced out the window toward Max's house, wondering if today would be different. A flutter of anticipation stirred in her chest as she dressed for the day.
Max was there, sitting on a bench, engrossed in a book. He looked up as Lucy approached, a friendly smile spreading across his face.
"Hey, Lucy!" he called out, waving her over.
Lucy felt a surge of courage, the memory of her wish bolstering her as she walked over to join him.
Max set his book aside, a curious glint in his eyes.
"I saw you out last night, looking at the stars," he said casually.
"Did you make a wish?"
Lucy hesitated, then nodded, a shy smile playing on her lips.
"I did. Did you?"
Max shrugged, his demeanor light and easy.
"Maybe. I guess we’ll see if it comes true," he replied, his gaze holding hers with an intensity that made her heart skip a beat.
Lucy and Max continued their conversation, their voices mingling with the soothing sounds of nature. The connection she had hoped for seemed to blossom naturally, without the need for wishes or stars.
"Maybe we can watch the stars together sometime," she suggested, her voice filled with hope and a newfound confidence.
"I'd like that," Max replied, his smile warm and genuine.
And as they lingered in the fading light, Lucy realized that sometimes, the universe had a way of making wishes come true in the most unexpected ways.
