Lada walked briskly across the quad, her face set in a determined expression. It was another day to endure the endless energy of Sofi, who was surely lurking nearby, ready to unleash her barrage of cheerful greetings.
Sofi suddenly appeared, bounding towards Lada with her trademark enthusiasm. "Laduška! I saved you a seat in class today!" she beamed, her eyes sparkling.
"Does that mean you're going to talk my ear off again?" Lada retorted, her sarcasm veiling the warmth she couldn’t quite admit to feeling.
Sofi sat beside Lada, her presence undeniable. Despite Lada's attempts to focus, she couldn’t ignore the magnetic pull of Sofi's exuberance.
"Did you get what he just said? Because I'm lost," Sofi whispered, leaning closer.
"Maybe if you listened instead of doodling hearts," Lada replied, though her tone lacked its usual edge.
Lada and Sofi shared a table, their cups steaming between them. The rain provided a soothing backdrop as they settled into a rare moment of tranquility.
"You know, you're not as annoying as I thought," Lada admitted, her voice barely above a whisper.
"I knew you'd warm up to me," Sofi grinned, reaching across the table to squeeze Lada's hand.
Lada walked beside Sofi, her emotions a whirlwind. The realization of her feelings had left her unsteady, unsure of how to proceed.
"I need some space, Sofi," Lada blurted, her voice strained.
"Oh," Sofi replied, her usual cheerfulness dimmed. "Okay, if that's what you need."
Lada sat on a bench, watching the sun dip below the horizon. She felt a presence beside her and turned to see Sofi, her smile tentative but hopeful.
"I realized something," Lada began, her voice softening. "I don't want space from you. I want to be with you."
"Really?" Sofi asked, her eyes wide with joy.
"Yes, really," Lada confirmed, her own smile breaking through. They sat together in the fading light, the world around them fading away.
Lada and Sofi lingered on the bench, wrapped in a comfortable silence. The connection between them was palpable, a new chapter beginning under the watchful eyes of the stars.
"Laduška," Sofi murmured, her voice full of affection. "I knew all along."
"You're impossible," Lada replied, but her tone was laced with warmth, her grumpiness now a part of their shared story.
