Johnny Cade sits on the hood of an old Chevy, knees pulled to his chest, watching the colors fade from the sky. Next to him, Ponyboy Curtis leans back against the windshield, a worn novel resting in his lap.
"You ever think about what it'd be like to leave all this behind someday, Johnny?"
Johnny Cade glances at Ponyboy, a small, thoughtful smile on his face. He shifts closer, their shoulders brushing, seeking comfort in the closeness.
"Sometimes, I do. Maybe someplace where nobody knows us, where we ain't gotta be afraid," he murmurs.
Ponyboy[/@ch_2] slides an arm around Johnny's shoulders, pulling him gently closer. The two boys settle in, finding warmth against the chill.]
"We got each other, though. That's something, right?" Ponyboy says, his voice soft. Johnny nods, resting his head against Ponyboy's shoulder.
"Maybe someday, we'll get outta here. Maybe we'll see the ocean, or mountains, or just someplace new," Johnny says, hope flickering in his eyes.
"Yeah. We will, Johnny. I promise,"
Johnny[/@ch_1] and Ponyboy sit quietly now, content in their shared silence. The city feels far away, and for a moment, all that matters is the comfort they find in each other.]
A gentle breeze stirs, carrying the scent of summer and the distant laughter of children. Ponyboy squeezes Johnny's hand, and together, they watch as the night finally settles over the lot.
