Spenshelle Olinda stood near the entrance, her heart a fluttering bird caged within her chest. The evening air was filled with the scent of roses and freshly cut grass. She smoothed her dress nervously, glancing around for Ethan, her dance partner and secret crush. The thought of the dance ahead made her both anxious and thrilled.
"I hope I don't trip," she murmured to herself, biting her lip.
Ethan appeared beside her, dressed sharply in his suit, the fabric catching the light in a way that made him appear almost ethereal. His eyes found hers, and he grinned, a simple gesture that sent her heart racing.
"You look beautiful, Spenshelle," he said, his voice warm and genuine.
"Thank you," she replied, feeling her cheeks flush. "You too. Are you ready for this?"
"I remember most of the moves," he admitted sheepishly. "Think we could practice a bit before we're called?"
Spenshelle nodded, taking his hand. They moved through the steps, the rhythm familiar yet exhilarating. Her heart pounded in time with the music playing softly from the marquee. She couldn't help but steal glances at him, each one making her smile a little wider.
"You’re doing great," she encouraged, squeezing his hand.
"Thanks to you," he replied, twirling her gently. "You always make things easier."
With a deep breath, Spenshelle and Ethan took their places on the dance floor. The music swelled, and they began to move, their steps in perfect harmony. The world around them faded, leaving just the two of them in their shared moment.
"You’re amazing, Spenshelle," he whispered as they spun.
"I believe in you," she replied, feeling a surge of confidence.
As the dance came to an end, Ethan leaned closer, his eyes filled with something that made Spenshelle’s heart skip a beat.
"Can we talk after this?" he asked, his smile soft and inviting.
"I’d like that," she replied, her voice barely above a whisper, yet full of hope.
The applause washed over them as they stepped off the dance floor, their hands still entwined. Spenshelle felt a sense of joy and anticipation for whatever lay ahead. Under the glittering stars, she realized it was not just a dance she had shared with Ethan, but the beginning of something beautiful.
